You'll Burn The House Down:

Yesterday was my wife's and my first Thanksgiving away from our families since we've moved to this sunny state. We found refuge with a few friends that we've both made over our short time here, and decided that there's no other way to spend a Southern Thanksgiving than deep frying a turkey. I'm a world class procrastinator when it comes to.. well... everything. This led me to Wednesday trying to find a "turkey fryer" which, to the non-cholesterol challenged, is a huge metal pot sitting atop a flimsy gas burner, connected to a propane tank. I'm a good ol'boy so I've been around deep fried turkey for a while and even had the chance to watch my family do this on numerous occasions, but I've never had any input on the situation. Any who.. back to the procrastination. I found the last fryer in the tri-county area. It was a display model, but had all the advertised goodies included. Everyone at work was telling me horror stories of people burning their houses down and losing limbs from deep frying turkeys. This is great stuff to hear before you set out on one of these adventures.
Skip to Thanksgiving afternoon. The turkey was AWESOME!!! First time for most of our friends cooking a meal this size all on our own. Everything turned out incredible. I recommend deep frying turkeys at least once a week :) So I'm back at work while the wife sleeps off a 12-hour graveyard shift. Even woke up in time to do a little bit of shopping this morning before clocking in. We're gonna head home to spend the rest of our Thanksgiving weekend with family and a few more de-feathered friends. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday whether you had turkey, chicken, ham, or a cheeseburger. Happy Holidays to all!
Back to food-coma status..err.. I mean work.

i vote for a gravy challenge next thanksgiving. it'd be kinda like the milk challenge. only chunkier and more fun for the whole family.
