If a tree falls on a man in the woods:

So we all have our little things that we are afraid to tell anyone.  Some things that we personally find a great deal of pleasure or interest in can sometimes be the downfall of one's self-righteousness (yeah, we all think we're awesome but only a few really are.. ahem..).  This topic occurred to me over Christmas, here's the set-up:

Friday, December 26th.  My parents dinner table.  Attendance: wife, brother, sister-in-law, two cousins, mom, dad, aunt (Grandma and Grandpa were with the nephew).  Stuffind our faces with post-Christmas pizza we somehow got on the topic of television and our favorite shows.  Now I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but the few shows I watch somehow have become the reaper for my dignity (and as my brother would call it.. my manhood).

I particularly enjoy these TV shows and a dim light bulb went off in my head.  I started to think about all the little "Guilty Pleasures" that I find comfort in.  So let's make a list!!! (ohhh I love activities!)

1.  The Hills.  Mondays at 10 on MTV!  10:30 you have to watch the aftershow.  I don't know if the appeal comes from the drama or the fact that I would like to thump Speidi in the eyeballs.  Either way I've been bitten by the LC Bug and I don't care who knows it! Too bad last week was the Season Finale, but LC brought us hope when she announced that the Hills is NOT over!  Guess we'll be watching the City for now... or... #2

2. Bromance.  I don't get it either, but anytime you can be clever enough to merge two words together and make a more descriptive third word... I'm watching.  Season Premier was on last night, just waiting to get home and drown my tears with the DVR version of Brody Jenner's Rock of Love meets My New BFF.

3. The Gilmore Girls! (yep..that's an exclamation point)  Ok now this gem has a little side story to it.  I've often caught myself flipping to the "Girls" (for short) between episodes of Myth Busters and Dirty Jobs.  I've never been able to get the whole story since the re-runs are not in any particular order.  Recently, the wife and I have been watching the "Girls" almost everyday before she has to run off to work.  I have to say it's actually quite funny.  If you're in the neighborhood around 5 or 5:30 EST and you hear the chuckle of a fat man.. it's not Santa.

4. Mama Mia! (that's an exclamation as well... but only because it's actually part of the name)  Yeah I dug it.  I'm an ABBA fan at heart.  I must admit that Meryl Streep does come off a little "manish" if you will.  "Here I go again.. My My.. How can I resist you."  Classic.

5.  I'll close with Super Mario Bros. 2.  I understand this isn't a "girly" thing, but I find it a guilty pleasure either way.  Mario Bros. 1 was a smash hit.  The early years when Mario was a pixelated glob of red and brown jumping over piles of poo with legs.  Those were the days.   Then came along SMB2.  As a young person, I was blown away with SMB2.  The game play took on a more RPG (that's Role Playing Game) type feel and "?" blocks were replaced with carrots and onions.  Oh, and who can forget the magic potions that turned everything into night time and gave you hidden goodies!  This was also one of the first times where the Mario characters actually took on their persona's.  Mario handled like a well rounded action hero.  Luigi would flail his tiny legs as fast as he could every time you jumped.  Princess Peach's dress acted more like a parachute, and Toad was... well...he's a mushroom.  A lot of people were not down with the SMB2 approach which is evident by the way SMB3 turned back into the platformer a majority of the world embraced.  Oh well, thank goodness for WII Virtual Console right!

And there we have it folks. The Chowlb Guilty Pleasure list for all to see.  I hope you enjoyed yourselves and feel free to share your own! (all six of you!)
