Bad week to be famous...

Prayers and condolences out to all the families of Ed, Farrah, Michael, and Billy.. and to anyone else that lost a loved one last week.  It's great to look back on the lives of those we've lost, to reminisce and feel secure in those times.  I remember watching all those Michael moments they've been showing on MTV, really takes you back.

The wife and I had an interesting conversation yesterday evening about all the losses, especially MJ.  He was a true music legend, a trend setter.  There aren't that many legends left like that.  Stars these days seem to come out of nowhere and crash and burn without a puff a smoke.  I'm not saying there are no good musicians left in the world... just that the legends that have brought us where we are today are on the endangered list.  We can't all live forever.

Madonna

Elton John

Paul McCartney

Gene Simmons

Ozzy

There are a couple more, but these are the ones that really changed the face of music.  The people who have their songs copied and covered more than any other.  Those who have written songs that we can't forget no matter what.  We rarely see artists achieve the heights that these have set before them.  Some come close, but do you really think you'll be seeing a 60 year old Ciara singing her "hits?"

Which brings me to another point...  what is up with music these days????

We had a pretty eventful weekend and driving around listening to the radio I can't even count on my fingers and toes how many times I heard the same songs over, and over, and over and over, and over...

It would be different had the music been unique or had a catchy melody, but there's just something gut wrenching about walking around singing about your "disco stick," you know who you are.  Over produced, overused "robot voice," and distorted basslines.  There's actually a band...person...group... called "LMFAO" that has a song about "I'm in Miami Trick."  To be honest, I wasn't aware there were that many magicians left in Miami (bad joke).  Over and over, play something different, at least throw in some Tom Petty every once in a while.

I'm just sad that radio has been so watered down these days.  We need a legend to be brought into light.  Someone who can write timeless music that everyone likes, even if they hate to admit it.

This is me stepping off my soapbox....
